Crazy Minnesotans

So the other night we decided it would be fun to go to the Hollidazzle parade downtown. The kids loved it last year and so we thought we should make it a yearly tradition. The Hollidazzle parade is a lighted parade that runs down the main street of downtown Minneapolis. It reminds me of a scaled down version of the light parade at Disneyland. So, to feel like true, crazy Minnesotans, we attended the parade in arctic temperatures. Of course we chose the coldest night so far this winter to go to the parade. Factoring in wind chill I'm sure that the temperature hovered around zero degrees ---brrrrrrr. We just bundled the kids up, complete with snow pants, hats, gloves, boots, and scarves. Once the parade started I don't think the kids minded the cold one bit. On the other hand Harv, Ella and I were freezing. You can see in the picture that Ella was completely wrapped up. Ella and Harv spent most of the time huddled in the heated bus stop, which was still cold. It really is amazing how many people show up for the parade. The smart people are inside the skyways looking down on all the fun. I must admit though, there is something more exciting about being outside to enjoy all the music and even the cold.

To paint a picture of how cold it really was, before we went outside we bought some hot chocolate. The hot chocolate was scorching hot when we bought it. Once we got outside someone pointed out that the hot chocolate had spilled down the back of our stroller, it was a huge mess. I quickly grabbed some baby wipes to clean it off. I tried to wipe it off and realized that the drips of hot chocolate were frozen in place. We had to wait until we went back inside to let the hot chocolate defrost before cleaning up the mess.

I am very impressed you dared to go out in the bitter cold weather! I think we will be skipping out on the Holidazzle this year. It is way too cold! I obviously am not a true Minnesotan.

i SO wish we had some cold weather to venture out into...it's in the 80's here, and i am truly mourning the loss of seasons!
on a semi-sentimental note, i'm listening to that martha stewart baby cd that we listened to in baby group at ucch...do you remember that cd? it's making me sad and happy at the same time. sad that my days with you and julie are over, and happy that we're friends. :) miss you!
